Chiffon Sarees known for their lightweight feel have origin in China and France. The word ‘chiffon’ originates from the french word ‘chiffe’, meaning cloth or rag. Originally chiffons were crafted purely from fine silk threads and used the technique of puckering and twisting that adds the texture we enjoy in the weave of chiffon. In India, Chiffon sarees were widely popularised by the royal families. Therefore, it is that royal fabric that enjoyed royalty of palaces in Rajasthan, and the Mahals of Bengal, before this rich and expensive weave made an undeniable impact on everyday fashion. This pure and expensive weave was later tweaked for nylon chiffon and comes in a wide range of prints and patterns.
